Biography

Sinae Kim is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed in the Department for the Study of Religion and the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Toronto. Her research centers on the history of premodern Chinese Buddhism, with a particular emphasis on the practical dimensions of religious practices. Utilizing a diverse array of both transmitted and excavated materials, she investigates the intersections of ritual, oral performance, and vernacular narratives within East Asian traditions. Her work also delves into preaching culture, manuscript studies, and Buddhist canons and commentaries, offering new insights into the lived experiences and textual traditions of premodern Chinese Buddhism.
