Biography

Hairong Huang is a PhD candidate in modern Chinese history. She is broadly intrigued by topics related to animals, environments, and technologies, and her working dissertation focuses on a history of pigs in twentieth-century China. She is interested in exploring not only how pigs were reshaped by state policies and new technologies but also how these sentient beings affected people’s perceptions of life and subsistence.
