The students in our Chinese Language Program participated in the 2024 EAS Chinese Skit and Speech Contest on Saturday, November 9, in the EAS Lounge.
A total of 132 students competed in three sessions across six proficiency levels. 49 groups of students from EAS100, EAS101, EAS200, and EAS201 competed for the Best Original Skits. 24 individuals from EAS300 and EAS402 delivered short speeches. Four student groups won the Best Original Skits. EAS100 student Joshua Greghi and his friends won by their hilarious performance in “The Foreigner Teaches Chinese.” EAS101 students Madeline Cai and Rolian Zhang won by their humorous representation of a hard-working but stressed student in “A Bald Student.” EAS200 students Tyler Cooper and Bijan Davis impressed the audience with their interaction as an annoyed customer and a careless waiter. EAS201 students Catherine Lacis, Sophia Li, and Eleanor Gao showcased their impressive bargaining skills as a couple shopping for artwork during a spree. Jake Cohen and Sophia Lin grabbed the first prizes for speeches in the upper-intermediate and advanced levels. In his speech, Jake (EAS300) shared his opinions about the sense of humor of Chinese netizens. The examples he used brightened the room with laughter. Sophia Lin (EAS402) discussed the negative and positive uses of labels.
